Casting

A cast is a device made of layers of plaster, bandages, fiberglass, or other non-plaster materials. It is used to:

1. Prevent and correct deformities
2. Reduce muscle pain, spasm, and swelling
3. Immobilize
4. Maintain body alignment
5. Model prior to making an artificial limb
6. Elevation
7. Support a weakened limb
