Antidiuretic Hormone/Vasopressin (ADH)
The antidiuretic hormone counteracts diuresis by stimulating fluid retention in the kidneys (yet not affecting sodium excretion). It also causes vasoconstriction (hence the name “vasopressin”).
Summary
Hormone | Description | Control Center | Stimulants | Depressants |
---|---|---|---|---|
Antidiuretic Hormone (ADH); Vasopressin | Manages water reabsorption in urinary excretion; causes vasoconstriction. | (1) Hypothalamic Osmoreceptors, (2) Adenohypophysis | Increased blood osmolarity | Decreased blood osmolarity |
